Animal Crossing Switch: Release Date, News, Trailers, Rumors, Pre-Order

Animal Crossing for Nintendo Switch at long last is a real announced game that’s coming to the system in 2019! After almost 7 years of waiting since Animal Crossing: New Leaf released on the Nintendo 3DS, it’s beyond time for a new mainline game.

What we know about Animal Crossing Switch so far

Animal Crossing Switch was first revealed and announced in a Nintendo Direct on September 13th, 2018 at the same time as Isabelle was introduced as a fighter in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. As part of the announcement, a short trailer with Tom Nook in his office discussing a new game was released and can be viewed below:

In an additional tweet announcing the game, Nintendo of America specified that Animal Crossing Switch will in fact be a mainline title in the series. This is a welcome confirmation after many spin-offs over the past few years including Animal Crossing: Happy Home Designer, Animal Crossing: amiibo Festival, and Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp.

Beyond this, we know nothing else about the game confirmed yet as of March 2019.

Animal Crossing Switch release date

The official release date from Nintendo for Animal Crossing Switch is sometime during the year of 2019. No further release date has been revealed by the company officially.

Two prominent release dates have been rumored for April 29th and September 13th, but we believe neither to be accurate release dates for the following reasons:

  • The rumored April 29th date is a Monday release (Nintendo typically releases games on Fridays) and is far too soon for a game without any gameplay footage revealed yet.
  • The rumored September 13th date was leaked by the game retailer Base, which also listed a release date of July 19th for Luigi’s Mansion 3. After the recent Nintendo Direct where Fire Emblem: Three Houses was set to release on July 26th, we believe this retailer to be an inaccurate source.

If we were to speculate with an educated guess, we suspect Animal Crossing Switch will release between September 2019 and December 2019. A release before September is extremely unlikely in our opinion.

When will there be a new Animal Crossing Switch trailer or news?

After the most recent Nintendo Direct on February 13th passed without any news, it’s an open question as to when we will hear a new trailer or other news about Animal Crossing Switch.

The next big official event on Nintendo’s calendar is E3 in June 2019, but there have historically been surprise Nintendo Direct presentations in the late Spring prior to E3 as well. We are likely to hear more about Animal Crossing Switch at either one of those events — stay tuned!
