We have some unfortunate news today regarding online play in Animal Crossing: Wild World and Animal Crossing: City Folk.

On May 20th, Nintendo will be shutting down the Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection servers which provide online play, leaderboards, and more in all Nintendo DS/Wii games. This includes the Animal Crossing, Mario Kart, Pokemon, and Smash Bros games. More details below:

This means that as of May 20th it will no longer be possible to open your gate to invite visitors to your town, or visit other towns, over the internet in Wild World and City Folk. Local wireless play will still be available in Wild World.

I know personally for myself, and probably many of you, many fond memories were made in Wild World and City Folk playing online with friends. For a lot of players, Wild World or City Folk was their first introduction to the series, and it won’t be the same without any online play. It’s sad that it’s shutting down, but unfortunately it was inevitable eventually.

So if you want any last moments to experience those games online with friends, remember that you have until May 20th to do before Nintendo shuts it down for good! If you’re looking for people to play with before, feel free to use the comments section below to share friends codes to play either Wild World or City Folk before time is up.
