Animal Crossing: New Leaf sets launch day sales record in the eShop, boosts 3DS hardware sales by 4 times

When Animal Crossing: New Leaf launched in the Nintendo eShop digitally this past Sunday, there were many who decided to download the game. Just how popular was the digital version though?

Well, according to Satoru Iwata speaking at the Nintendo E3 Analyst Briefing, the digital version of Animal Crossing: New Leaf actually set a new record for launch day sales in the Nintendo eShop. It doesn’t come as a massive surprise, but it’s still very good to hear.

In addition, the hardware sales for the Nintendo 3DS were boosted to nearly 4 times greater than sales from the previous week. As a final note, Iwata points out that the success of Animal Crossing: New Leaf is crucial to the future of the 3DS in North America and Europe.
