Welcome to Waikiki – Animal Crossing: New Leaf Daily Blog (Day 1)
So thanks to the wonderful folks over at Nintendo of Canada, I was able to obtain an early copy of Animal Crossing: New Leaf yesterday, a couple days prior to the release. I already planned on doing daily gameplay posts on here, but they’re starting a little early now!
Keep reading if you want to view my first day in Animal Crossing: New Leaf! Beware of potential spoilers.
I did a lot in Animal Crossing yesterday, and took over 200 screenshots, so there’s no way I can possibly include everything into this blog post. So don’t be alarmed if things seem to jump around in time a bit.
MOVING INTO TOWN
After spending an hour and a half picking through various different maps, I finally moved on and headed into my village for the very first time on the train. My face turned out to be quite nice and my starting shirt isn’t too bad either!
The lovely villagers of Waikiki were awaiting my arrival at the Train Station, or so it seemed like it at least! My secretary Isabelle made sure that everyone in town gave me a warm welcome. 🙂
She asked me to follow her to the Town Hall of Waikiki for initial processing. On the way, I discovered my native town fruit are Apples! I hope to find a perfect Apple…
Apparently, in Waikiki, a Mayor should first be a resident! Or at least, that’s what Isabelle told me… She knows what she’s doing, right?!? Well, she had someone in mind to handle my housing situation.
None other than Tom Nook himself of Nook’s Homes! Where have I seen this guy before… He’s going to handle my housing situation although he didn’t say what it was going to cost me… Eh, I guess he’s just being nice and giving it to me for free, right?
I’ve been told by Tom Nook that I can choose where I want my house, I just have to take him there. So don’t worry about the Tanuki following me around Waikiki. I ended up choosing to build my house in the bottom right of my map near the beach on the cliff. It’s quite the cozy spot.
Unfortunately, I forgot to catch a screenshot at the time, so you’ll have to wait a bit longer! After that, I left a nice message on the Waikiki Bulletin Board and headed back to Town Hall to meet up with Isabelle.
She informed me of an important ceremony happening… starring me! We scurried on over to the Town Plaza to plant the official Waikiki Town Tree, with all of the village residents present. It was quite the event!
Of course, after planting the tree, I did just what any quality mayor would do: Survey the residents to fish for compliments see what they think of their new mayor! Lolly was happy to oblige. 🙂
EXPLORATION AROUND TOWN
Finding myself free to explore, I toured the town’s shops with Nookling Junction and Re-Tail. Tommy was there to greet me at Nookling Junction, while the friendly alpacas were ready for me at Re-Tail. (well, at least one was…)
Something caught my eye at Re-Tail. It was almost love at first sight… It was a Office Locker! I knew we were meant to be from the moment we met.
Unfortunately, I was flat out BROKE! I mean, check out that Bell counter in the top right of the screenshots… I was dedicated though. I was going to get that office locker, an 800 Bell price tag wasn’t going to come between us!
Where does a new Mayor go when he needs Bells? The beach! I went hunting for some sea shells to sell for a quick buck. That wasn’t all I found though…
It’s Gulliver! He seems to be a bit… washed up. Maybe we should help him.
Hmm, I wonder where he was heading. Give us some hints Gulliver! Help us out here!
Hey, wait a second Gulliver… That sounds pretty familiar, doesn’t it? What is this village called again? Waikiki?!? In Hawaii!
Well, you’re right at home in the village of Waikiki, Gulliver. 🙂
Apparently, he’s going to send me a nice souvenir in the mail! I’ll be waiting.
After earning my first Bells from the sea shells, I purchased my first tools from Nookling Junction. Tommy had a Shovel and a Net in stock, but sadly no Fishing Rod.
There was also a single Fortune Cookie for sale, at the cost of one 3DS Play Coin. Fortunately, I’ve been saving these up for a while now. 🙂
Inside my Fortune Cookie was a lucky fortune to hand to Tommy. He gave me some Hero’s Clothes from Zelda in return! I’ll try them on later.
ARMED WITH THE SHOVEL
With my newly acquired shovel, I went out in search of fossils, gyroids, gems, and money rocks! Check out what I managed to find in the screenshots above.
A TRIP TO JAPAN
I decided to visit a faraway Japanese village as my first trip away from Waikiki. Ruu on Twitter was happy enough to have me over. 🙂
I have to say, considering that I was connecting to a village so far away in the world, I was very impressed by the minimal amount of lag that I experienced. I wouldn’t worry about it if you were concerned.
Ruu’s village was very nice, and full of many beautiful flowers! I hope to visit their town again in the near future.
RETURNING TO WAIKIKI
I returned home to Waikiki to tie up some loose ends. The first order of business was to pay the down payment for my house over at Nook’s Homes.
While I was close by, I checked into the Post Office to pick up June’s SpotPass DLC item: The Rainbow Screen!
I rearranged the furniture in my tent for the last time, including a new item from a Balloon Present which I caught using a Net. It’s a neat trick!
I’ll end my first Day in Animal Crossing: New Leaf with this close up shot next to Porter at the Train Station. I’m proudly wearing my Luigi shirt, in the spirit of the Year of Luigi!
Today’s post turned out to be massive, but don’t expect every post to be like this. That being said, I hope to continue this series for at least a couple more weeks. I may miss a couple days though.
I hope you enjoyed it! Please let me know in the comments below if you liked it, and if you have any questions for me. Thanks!
