Possible Animal Crossing amiibo Card stock shortage in Japan (Rumor)

Word is going around that there might be fairly significant stock issues with the upcoming Animal Crossing amiibo Cards releasing in Japan next week alongside Animal Crossing: Happy Home Designer on July 30th.
The news primarily comes from the following email recently sent alongside cancellation to some customers who had pre-orders of the Animal Crossing amiibo Card Series One packs placed at AmiAmi, a popular online retailer for Japanese imports.
Dear Customer,
Thank you for shopping at AmiAmi.
This message is being sent with regards your order for the item “Animal Crossing amiibo Card Vol.1 5Pack Set” (GAME-0014482).
Unfortunately due to production issues, we have been notified by the maker that there is a major stock shortage of this item. We will be unable to fulfill most orders for the item placed at our store because of this, and we are sorry to say that your order is among those we will not be able to fulfill. Your order for the item will be canceled.
While we have not yet received any official notification, it is very possible that the release of the item “Animal Crossing amiibo Card Vol.2 5Pack Set” (GAME-0014484) may be discontinued due to the issues experienced with the production/release of Vol.1. Notices will be sent accordingly if the need arises.
On behalf of the maker, we sincerely apologize for the inconvenience this may have caused.
Best regards, AmiAmi
In the email, AmiAmi notes that they have been informed by Nintendo that they will be unable to complete most of their orders for the cards. Presumably, the same should apply to other retailers selling the cards. They warn that the second series of Animal Crossing amiibo Cards releasing on September 10th could be affected by this as well.
Although amiibo have had quite a troubled history with stock issues over the past year, it felt pretty safe to assume that there would be zero issues for the cards. I mean, they are just cards with a tiny NFC chip in them, how hard could it really be?
Hopefully, this is just the case of a single retailer and not too widespread. And if it is, let’s hope Nintendo gets everything sorted out before late September’s launch of Animal Crossing: Happy Home Designer in North America. I know for myself I’m definitely not going to be willing to play the chaotic amiibo stock game just for some plastic cards.
