Animal Crossing: Happy Home Designer software update for Happy Home Network releasing on September 16th in Japan

A previously announced software update for the Japanese version of Animal Crossing: Happy Home Designer is coming on September 16th.

The update primarily introduces the new set of online features to Animal Crossing: Happy Home Designer that we now know as the Happy Home Network. With the new features, players can upload their home and facility designs online to the network, as well as visit and rate other players’ designs.

Searching for designs on the network looks to be simple yet comprehensive with filtering available by villager or public facility, type of ratings, new or popular, and theme contest. Your favourite designs and creators can be favourited as well for presumably quick access in the future.

Designs can be rated in four categories each representing a prominent character in the game:

• Cute (Isabelle)
• Cool (Tom Nook)
• Unique (Lottie)
• I’d live here! (Digby)

Finally, there will reportedly be official theme design contests from Nintendo (possibly hosted by King Tom Nook judging by the screenshots) on the network where special furniture will be provided for the theme if you choose to enter the contest. We don’t know for sure, but perhaps Nintendo will distribute new item DLC through this feature like in previous Animal Crossing games.

While these features are coming to the Japanese version through a software update on September 16th, we’re currently expecting the Happy Home Network to be available at launch in the overseas version of the game.

That’s actually pretty great because the network should already be pre-populated with fantastic homes from the Japanese version when players overseas get to picking up their copy.
