TRICK: Eat Turnips for Efficient, Compact, Affordable Tree Moving Energy in Animal Crossing: New Horizons

We’re huge fans of the great new fruit energy feature in Animal Crossing: New Horizons that allows you to completely pick up trees and move them elsewhere, but you can eat more than just fruit!
It turns out that eating Turnips purchased from Daisy Mae can be a great source for ‘fruit’ energy too, and even a better source than regular fruit for a number of reasons that we’ll get into.
For those not already familiar though, one of the coolest new features in Animal Crossing: New Horizons is the ability to dig up entire trees using your shovel, and then replant them as fully grown trees anywhere else on your island. To do this, you need to eat fruit to gain energy.
However, eating turnips is a great alternative and comes with a bunch of helpful benefits over regular fruit. For one, you can actually eat an entire set of 10 turnips at once with the press of a single ‘Eat 10’ button, versus fruit that must be eaten one at a time. A big time saver!
Secondly, it’s actually possible to stack turnips in your inventory as high as 100 while only taking up a single item slot of your pockets. This is a huge improvement over fruit too, which can only stack up to 10 each per inventory slot.
You might be wondering why you would want to store so many fruits or turnips in your inventory at once, but this can be incredibly helpful if you are visiting mystery islands with Nook Miles Tickets and want to bring back a pocket full of trees or bamboo trees.
Finally, if you’re using fruit energy a lot and find yourself running out of fruit to eat, it’s actually far more affordable to purchase turnips than buying fruit from Timmy & Tommy at Nook’s Cranny. Of course, this won’t apply to most people, but if you need to move a LOT of trees it could matter.
You can purchase Turnips from Daisy Mae every Sunday morning from 5am to 12pm for a random price ranging from 90 to 110 Bells per Turnip. On the other hand, purchasing your native fruit at Nook’s Cranny costs 400 Bells per fruit if you don’t have enough.
Anyway, that’s our quick little trick on how to most efficiently pick up trees using turnips in Animal Crossing: New Horizons! Be sure to check out our Animal Crossing: New Horizons Guides page here for more information and tricks on the game.
