USB Keyboard Support Confirmed in Animal Crossing: New Horizons, Keyboard Recommendations

It’s been confirmed that Animal Crossing: New Horizons supports using USB keyboards plugged into the Nintendo Switch to type in-game!

While this shouldn’t come as a huge shock given that USB keyboards are generally supported across the Nintendo Switch OS, it’s great to have the confirmation for Animal Crossing: New Horizons in particular. Not to mention, it’s not widely known by everyone that the Nintendo Switch even supports USB Keyboards at all!

Some might wonder why you would ever want or need keyboard support, but in my view it’s a tremendously useful feature for writing letters to villagers, posting on friend’s bulletin boards, and most of all typing to friends online using the in-game text chat.

In terms of compatibility, you should be able to use nearly any standard keyboard that uses USB made in the past couple decades! And that’s not limited to just wires, most wireless USB keyboards should function as well.

And by the way, if you’re wondering exactly how you’re meant to plug a keyboard into your Nintendo Switch, it’s actually supported using the USB ports on the TV dock. So unfortunately, this will only apply for dock play, but that’s probably where you’d want the feature most anyway.

An affordable, slim, and compact wireless keyboard for about $20 at Amazon using 2 AA batteries. We managed to find a couple reviews confirming solid compatibility with the Nintendo Switch too.

USB Wired Small Compact Aluminum Silver Keyboard by Macally – $30

While it’s not wireless like the one above, you can trade that feature in for a much nicer silver aluminum build on this keyboard. It’s similarly compact and runs for about $30 on Amazon here.

Mini Wired Thin Light USB Keyboard by SR – $13

For the Animal Crossing player on a tight budget, you can’t really get any more affordable than this basic super compact wired keyboard for just $13 on Amazon here. Absolutely no thrills, but if you’re just using it for Animal Crossing it should do the trick!
