Special Edition Animal Crossing: New Horizons Switch isn’t actually limited edition, at least in Japan

In the last few days, there’s been some panic going around in the Animal Crossing community as pre-orders for the special edition Animal Crossing: New Horizons Nintendo Switch system have sold out in some countries.

Of course we would all like to be able to get one of these delightful new systems at release day on either March 13th or March 20th, depending on your region, but if you’re okay with waiting a bit longer there’s some potentially good news.

According to the very bottom of the official Nintendo announcement article in Japanese, the special edition Animal Crossing: New Horizons Switch system isn’t actually a limited edition release.

Specifically, the following footnote is written at the bottom of the page, translated via Google as the following:

Body set and carrying case are not limited. It will be produced after the release date.

It would seem from this that, at least in Japan, both the Animal Crossing console and the Animal Crossing Aloha Edition carrying cases will not be limited edition. The statement even goes as far as to specifically state more will be produced after the release date on March 20th.

However, we have been unable to find any similar language coming from both Nintendo of America and Nintendo of Europe, so it’s quite possible that production will only continue for the Japanese market. That’s still some good news though as the Nintendo Switch is region-free and could be imported if you’re desperate enough.

Regardless, I thought it would be worth sharing this little piece of information that seems to have gone largely unreported so far, especially amidst some of the recent panic as pre-orders begin to sell out.

Here’s a couple places that are still selling pre-orders of the special edition Animal Crossing: New Horizons Nintendo Switch, or at least were when we wrote this article:

Animal Crossing: New Horizons launches worldwide in less than two months from now on March 20th! Check out our release date countdown here, or pre-order the game here. Stay tuned to Animal Crossing World for more news as we approach the release!
