Aya Kyogoku, the director of Animal Crossing: New Leaf, took to Miiverse today to remind everyone of the impending closure of the Animal Crossing Plaza application on Wii U. As we’ve known since the release of the plaza back in 2013, the application will be closing this month. The last chance to download it from the Nintendo eShop is December 21st, so here’s your chance to check it out if you haven’t yet.

Anyway, the more interesting bit to come from this is the note Kyogoku left at the end of her message telling us that they’ll be continuing to post Animal Crossing news related to the series in the Miiverse community and to “stay tuned for more information about Animal Crossing next year!”. Naturally, this is being taken as a sign of news on the next entry of the series next year.

I wouldn’t jump at this too soon though as she could also simply be referring to news such as the upcoming release of Mario Kart 8 DLC featuring Animal Crossing properties in May 2015, or other projects we don’t know of yet. Either way, we can’t be too far away from some exciting Animal Crossing news on the horizon soon enough!

Leave me your thoughts in the comments below. Do you expect to hear about the next entry in the series next year?
