Redd’s Paintings & Statues: Real vs Fake Art Guide

Jolly Redd with his selection of exclusive artwork has just been introduced to Animal Crossing: New Horizons (ACNH)! Learn exactly how to tell the difference between his real genuine art and his fake forgery art in this cheat sheet guide.

Once you’ve updated to Version 1.2.0 of Animal Crossing: New Horizons released on April 23rd, it’s possible for Jolly Redd to arrive on your island with his Treasure Trawler. If you enter his Treasure Trawler ship docked on the north secret beach, you can browse his selection of paintings and statues.

How Jolly Redd’s Art Works

When you purchase artwork items from Jolly Redd on your island, including both paintings and statues, there is a chance for the art piece you buy to be a fake forgery version. Be extra careful as you can only purchase one artwork item per day!

Fake forgery versions of Artwork in Animal Crossing: New Horizons are essentially useless besides decoration as Blathers will not accept such art pieces for donations to the Museum. The man has standards, you know!

The good news is that there’s more to fake artwork than just pure random luck — you can actually tell apart a real genuine piece of art from a fake by looking carefully at the artwork. If you have some existing knowledge of the piece, you might be able to figure this out yourself, or make an educated guess if something in the artwork just looks flat out ridiculous.

Are you not so talented at telling apart real genuine art from forgery fakes? There’s no need to worry because in this guide, we have a handy Jolly Red Art Real Genuine vs Fake Forgery Cheat Sheet right here!

In the Always Legitimate category, you’re listing the Famous, Jolly and Moving Painting which actually have a forgeries, as listed above.
Also I think you forget the Perfect Painting in the list because it’s said above that it does not have a forgery.

Except I understood it wrong and Redd isn’t actually selling the fakes I named, if so my mistake 😀

Paula

Hello, thanks for the list. Based on the descriptions, it looks like the real vs. fake photos are flip flopped for the Jolly, Solemn and Wild Right Half paintings. That’s how it loaded on my phone anyways. 🙂

Flo

I think the Jolly Painting’s description is off – or at least the labels as to which one is fake and real doesn’t match the description ^^’

Matt

A couple of these have the images reversed compared to the descriptions. Please make sure you double check the list for these errors.

The following have their images reversed compared to the description:
Jolly Painting
Wild Painting Right Half

Kyle

Quite honestly, this is the worst website I’ve seen for this information. There are much better ones!

peepo

As a suggestion, maybe it would be fun to provide titles of the real life equivalents? As an art enthusiast I think it’d be a cool way to have people learn more about the paintings. 🙂

Leilio

Interestingly, all French paintings have no fake version, I wonder why ^^
