You can select your player’s skin tone in Animal Crossing: New Horizons

One important new feature is making its way to the mainline Animal Crossing games finally with Animal Crossing: New Horizons — character skin tone selection!
Buried inside Kotaku’s article on the game, it’s revealed that a Nintendo representative confirmed to the website at E3 that Animal Crossing: New Horizons will allow you to select your player’s skin tone. Exactly what form this will take place in is a mystery at this point, but it’s good to have confirmation.
Here’s the exact quote from Kotaku:
Kotaku followed up with Nintendo after its Nintendo Direct presentation, and the company confirmed that you will be able to select your character’s skin tone in the game.
While the spin-off titles Animal Crossing: Happy Home Designer (pictured below) and Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp both featured the ability to select skin tone, they are fundamentally different games than the mainline series.
The last such game, Animal Crossing: New Leaf, did not include the option instead opting for a rather offensive method of ‘just go tan at the island’.
Traditionally, the mainline games in the series have featured a ‘questionnaire’ experience at the beginning of your journey, where your gender and other elements are determined by your answers to the questions. Happy Home Designer and Pocket Camp ditched this for a standard character creator, so it will be interesting to see how Animal Crossing: New Horizons handles the situation.
Pre-orders are now open for Animal Crossing: New Horizons at Amazon, GameStop, and Best Buy. Stay tuned to Animal Crossing World for more on Animal Crossing: New Horizons as we approach the release date next year.
