New Animal Crossing: New Horizons screenshots and returning villagers revealed at Nintendo Live 2019
While there wasn’t any major news on Animal Crossing: New Horizons at the Nintendo Live 2019 event in Japan last weekend, there were some small new tidbits from a promotional pamphlet distributed at the event!
Of course the pamphlet is in Japanese, but basic translations reveal there’s no noteworthy information from the text. However, there are a number of new screenshots to be found within the pamphlet!
Unfortunately these screenshots are pretty low-quality given their tiny size on a piece of paper, but it’s better than nothing, right? We’ve done our best attempt at improving the quality using a variety of techniques though.
Keep in mind that due to the extremely low original quality and tricks used to improve it, the game’s visuals do look slightly ‘blocky’ and off — the point here is to observe what’s in them, not the actual graphics!
So without further ado, here’s a sampling of the brand new Animal Crossing: New Horizons screenshots recovered and enhanced from the Nintendo Live 2019 pamphlet:
Here’s a few small things we can note from the new screenshots:
- A palm tree is ridiculously close to the edge of the beach by the ocean — this could be an effect of a moving tide or just an in-development quirk.
- What appears to be a section of beach in-between two parts of land (the screenshots with the camera pointed down).
- A brand new seaplane color design compared to September Direct.
- A better look at the rocks forming part of the island.
- Our first look at ocean beach fishing.
- Another look at the mysterious ‘giant mushroom’ and snowball rolling.
We didn’t cover every single new screenshot though, just the ones that stood out the most or appeared most different from the old images. There’s more in the full pamphlet at the end of this article, be sure to let us know in the comments if you notice anything else noteworthy!
In addition to the new screenshots, we can spot a bunch of new villagers confirmed for the first time to be returning in New Horizons by their inclusion in the pamphlet, here’s a list of them all:
- Kid Cat
Note that the images used in the pamphlet for these villagers are all previously released renders for Animal Crossing: New Leaf and don’t represent their new look in New Horizons yet. Nonetheless, we’re happy to see more villagers confirmed by their mere presence.

Special thanks to @tobi_mia on Twitter who captured and shared the original pamphlet photos from Nintendo Live 2019! Oh and if you’ve already seen this all of this already, my apologies, I was quite busy this week and wasn’t ready for any big Animal Crossing news to drop.
