Animal Crossing: New Horizons hits #1 on Japanese magazine Nintendo Most Wanted charts

Two of Japan’s major gaming magazines collect data from their readers on what upcoming Nintendo games are most anticipated and Animal Crossing is dominating the charts this week!

For most of the year before this week’s updates, Pokémon Sword and Pokémon Shield have been holding the top spot quite securely as you would expect. But now that Pokémon has been released worldwide earlier in the month, the #1 slot is back open for Animal Crossing to snag it!

Both the Nintendo Dream and Famitsu magazines in Japan have Animal Crossing: New Horizons at the top with a significant lead. The runner-up below Animal Crossing in both Most Wanted lists is none other than The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild 2, announced at E3 earlier this year.

Check out the complete top ten list for each magazine below, including exact rankings and the other runner-ups:

Nintendo Dream

  1. Animal Crossing: New Horizons (Switch) – 26.6%
  2. The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild 2 (Switch) – 15.6%
  3. Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE Encore (Switch) – 12.8%
  4. Rune Factory 5 (Switch) – 6.9%
  5. Hatsune Miku: Project DIVA Mega Mix (Switch) – 6.6%
  6. Xenoblade Chronicles: Definitive Edition (Switch) – 5.9%
  7. Story of Seasons Series New Work (Switch) – 5.2%
  8. TRIALS of MANA (Switch) – 4.8%
  9. Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles Remastered Edition (Switch) – 4.5%
  10. Inazuma Eleven Eiyuu Tachi no Great Road (Switch) – 3.8%

Famitsu

  1. Animal Crossing: New Horizons (Switch) – 508
  2. The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild 2 (Switch) – 292
  3. Bayonetta 3 (Switch) – 278
  4. Shin Megami Tensei V (Switch) – 231
  5. Ushiro (Switch) – 205
  6. Rune Factory 5 (Switch) – 184
  7. SD Gundam G Generation Cross Rays (Switch) – 133
  8. TRIALS of MANA (Switch) – 131
  9. Momotaro Dentetsu ~Showa Heisei, Reiwa mo Teiban!~ (Switch) – 111
  10. Yo-kai Watch 4++ (Switch) – 92

Past the top two, it’s really just a selection of third-party titles and remakes, besides Bayonetta 3. It really shows how little of Nintendo’s upcoming lineup is known right now other than these top two big games.

That’s all the more reason for the Nintendo marketing machine to go all in on Animal Crossing in the New Year though! It’s also one of the reasons we think a special edition Animal Crossing console will likely be released since there aren’t any other major games coming up for a solid bundle.

So assuming that you’re probably already highly anticipating New Horizons since you’re reading this article, what other games are on your personal Most Wanted list? Let us know in the comments below — Nintendo or not!

Huge thanks to Japanese Nintendo for sourcing both of the Most Wanted lists!
