Animal Crossing: New Horizons Version 1.1 brings Bunny Day holiday, Switch gifts, Pocket Camp items, and more

2 weeks ago 2 Comments

A new Version 1.1 update for Animal Crossing: New Horizons is now available to download bringing a number of new additions to the game for launch day!

If you have the digital game pre-purchased and pre-loaded from the Nintendo eShop, you can begin updating your game immediately to be prepared for launch time later today. Just press + on the Animal Crossing: New Horizons icon, select Software Update, and select Via Internet! Version 1.1 will begin downloading to your Nintendo Switch.

Here’s a summary of everything new we know about that’s included in the Version 1.1 update of Animal Crossing: New Horizons…

Bunny Day Easter Holiday Event

The most notable new addition in Version 1.1 is the introduction of the Bunny Day holiday event for Easter. This will be the very major holiday event we experience in Animal Crossing: New Horizons, and from the information released so far, it’s going to be a very different experience than past games.

According to Nintendo, the Bunny Day holiday event will begin on April 1st this year and continue through until April 12th! This will be a major change from past versions of Bunny Day where the event always took place during one single day on Easter Day.

Furthermore, we have been specifically warned that time traveling by changing our system clock time to April 1st in advance of the real time will not begin the Bunny Day event. You will need to start the game connected to the internet once April 1st has arrived in real time to set the game version to 1.1.0a.

Once your game has been set to Version 1.1.0a, the Bunny Day holiday event for Easter can be experienced without internet connection. Note that a linked Nintendo Account will be required.

Nintendo Switch Mail Gifts

Players will receive up to two special gifts in their in-game mail when they play Animal Crossing: New Horizons after updating to Version 1.1 as a thank you! Everyone will get the Nintendo Switch furniture item to display in your house or outdoors.

Additionally, players with the Special Edition Animal Crossing Joy-Con controllers will get a second gift in their mailbox — an in-game recreation of the Special Edition Animal Crossing Nintendo Switch!

But don’t worry if you can’t get your hands on the Animal Crossing Joy-Con controllers yourself as Nintendo says both items will be available for purchase regularly through Nook Shopping in some manner too.

Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp Items

The previously announced Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp X Animal Crossing: New Horizons collaboration items have been added to the game with the Version 1.1 update! We’ll have another article with more details on the items soon and exactly how to get them.

For now, enjoy the screenshot above of the entire Pocket Camp items set in Animal Crossing: New Horizons. However, not all of these items will be initially available.

Nook Inc. Exclusive Rug for Nintendo Switch Online Members

A new exclusive Nook Inc. Rug item has been added to Animal Crossing: New Horizons in Version 1.1 for players who subscribe to the Nintendo Switch Online service!

After downloading the bonus data with your Nintendo Account attached to a Nintendo Switch Online subscription, the Nook Inc. Rug can be exchanged for Nook Miles.

You can exchange Nook Miles for various items, including this one, at the Nook Stop terminal at Resident Services. This feature is not immediately unlocked in Animal Crossing: New Horizons however.

Nook Link & Online Multiplayer

The Nook Link service as part of the Nintendo Switch Online smartphone app has been added to Animal Crossing: New Horizons as part of the Version 1.1 update!

With the Nook Link service, you can use a variety of special functions like…

  • Scan Pattern Design QR Codes from past Animal Crossing games
  • Use your smartphone keyboard for in-game chat
  • View your Best Friends’ online status
  • See your Passport profile

Visiting other islands via online multiplayer has also been added to the game as it was not included in the first version. Note that a Nintendo Switch Online subscription is required to use both the Nook Link service and online multiplayer features.

What You Need for Each Update Feature

Nintendo has provided a great table in Japanese to help explain exactly what you will need to take part of the various new features covered in this article and Version 1.1 of Animal Crossing: New Horizons!

I have to wonder how a person gets patterns if they don’t have Nintendo Online, so they can’t use the app to scan QR codes.
Also, not gonna lie, I squealed a bit at the sight of the AC console in the game.

I’m getting major FNAF vibes from that bunny… Never trust a bunny with a visor. I’ll be keeping my eye on this one… e___e
