Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp Complete Removes Microtransactions & Costs $10 Launching In December

With the upcoming discontinuation of Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp approaching in late November, a new offline and paid version of the game has been announced as Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp Complete — and it’s looking like a treat!

Revealed today by Nintendo, Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp Complete is scheduled for release on December 3rd, 2024 and comes with a number of improvements and changes from the live service version of Pocket Camp we’ve known since 2017.

Most notably, the new paid version will be a flat fee purchase with absolutely no in-game purchase or micro transactions in the app! Additionally, the paid subscription plans will no longer be sold, with some of their features now available to all players.

This means almost* the entire catalogue of events and items that have been released in Pocket Camp over the past seven years will be available to earn and enjoy with regular gameplay — without needing to continually fork over real money for purchasing Leaf Tickets.

(Almost? Sadly, collaboration items and villagers such as Sanrio won’t be available to unlock in Complete. However, if you already have them in Pocket Camp and transfer your save data, then they’ll be available. Weird.)

Instead, you’ll now be able to earn and spend a similar new free in-game currency called Leaf Tokens. Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp Complete will still follow a real time and date system just like before, but with the game’s previous events now repeating on a lengthy four year cycle.

A new feature called the Complete Item Catalog can help fulfil item dreams from the past too, with almost all items and fortune cookies available using Complete Tickets, again earned without paid microtransactions.

Even better, an additional 10 months of extra new content has been promised for release between December 2024 to September 2025 — an unexpected bonus we didn’t see coming when this paid version was first released! This will come in the form of new events and fortune cookies releasing around December 2024, April 2025, July 2025, and September 2025.

Unfortunately, with the nature of being an alternative to the online live service, many real time friend features such as Market Boxes and gifting event items will no longer exist. However, a new QR Code based system called Camper Cards has been implemented instead to still allow for some basic friend features.

Using Camper Cards, you can scan QR Codes from friends to add them and their favourite villager to your game in a new area called Whistle Pass. In Whistle Pass, your scanned friends can still help you at the quarry, occasionally share gifts with you, or join you at K.K. Slider’s concert.

To celebrate the launch, Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp Complete will initially cost only $9.99 USD until January 31st, 2025. After that date, the app will be regularly priced at $19.99 USD, or equivalent in your local currency. You can pre-order on the Apple App Store for iOS devices here, and on the Google Play Store for Android devices here.

Save data from the current live service version of Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp can be transferred to the Complete edition, but this is only possible if you link a Nintendo Account prior to the original game’s shutdown in the early morning on November 28th, 2024.

While it remains a shame for the most dedicated fans that Pocket Camp’s original incarnation will be coming to an end, it is hard to imagine any better way for Nintendo to handle the shutdown than this. There are many more examples of live service games becoming completely lost forever to the ether, and it’s lovely that Pocket Camp won’t suffer that fate!

I’ll certainly be picking up Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp Complete — both to own a piece of Animal Crossing history and to enjoy the incredible catalogue of furniture Pocket Camp has to offer, now without loot box paywalls! Let us know in the comments below if you’ll be grabbing it too, or taking a pass.

It’s been an honour and privilege since the very beginning, Pocket Camp. See you on the other side.
