New Free Underwater Updates & Paid DLC Coming to Pokémon Pokopia Starting in August
Pokémon Pokopia launched as a surprise smash hit just a few months ago, and it’s not going anywhere with a new free update and paid DLC both on their way beginning in August!
The fun starts with a free software update available for all players in August that unlocks the new Dive ability, which lets you head underwater in the game’s ocean for the first time. Just as above ground, you can create habitats and build structures beneath the sea.
Additionally, the Pokémon Pokopia Expansion Pass will begin at the same time with the first paid DLC titled Bubbly Basin unlocking a new town to explore of the same name, clearly inspired by Cerulean City. This fresh underwater area will have plenty of new furniture, outfits, and of course Pokémon to discover. So far we can see Mudkip, Popplio, Primarina, Swampert, and Manaphy among the new Pokémon!
And there’s more! Two more future paid DLCs are bundled in the Expansion Pass with a vague ‘additional new features’ DLC coming later in 2026 (likely around the holidays?) and a second brand new town area arriving sometime in 2027.
It should be noted that the announcement’s disclaimer section confirms that a new town will not be added in the second paid DLC, so expect that the expansion pass will offer a total of two new towns — not three. We’re not really sure what to expect for that second part, given the vagueness of ‘new features’ without a new town.
Finally, it’s not possible to purchase any of the paid DLC content separately — you must buy the entire bundled Expansion Pass with all three parts. Based on everything, our guess is that the ‘real’ DLC will be the two new towns in August and sometime in 2027, so we suggest setting expectations pretty low for that DLC in the middle.
Pre-orders are open now for the Pokémon Pokopia Expansion Pass, which is priced at $34.99 USD. If you do so, you’ll get early access right now to two new Dynamic Ditto print recipes that create block and interior wallpaper items, plus a redemption code for 30 Rare Pokémetal materials!
