Animal Crossing amiibo cards Series 3 coming to Japan in January

Nintendo has announced the third series of Animal Crossing amiibo cards coming to Japan early in the new year.

Animal Crossing amiibo cards Series 3 contains yet another 100 new cards to the amiibo card collection for use in both Animal Crossing: Happy Home Designer and Animal Crossing: amiibo Festival. Continuing the seasons trend set by the previous two, the third series looks to be a winter themed one from the packaging and character choices.

New special characters in Series 3 include Rovers, Blathers, Pelly, Cyrus, Franklin, and Jingle, while new favourite villagers include Mitzi, Wolfgang, Marshal, Hamlet, Francine, and Apollo. It seems that Nintendo will be continuing to include duplicates of special characters from previous series in future cards. Series 2 had a second Isabelle card and that was all, but we’ve spotted alternative versions of Tom Nook, Timmy, Digby, Don Resetti, and Isabelle (again!) in the third series.

Opinions may be mixed on this, but ultimately it’s filler content to complete four full series, and disappointing personally. I would have loved to see the four members of the Snowman family appear in this series instead! Walking snowmen anyone?

The series will launch first in Japan on January 14th, 2016 and come to other regions later. Series 2 launched in Europe on November 20th, and is set to release in North America on January 22nd. We’ll let you know as soon as we hear word on release dates for Series 3 overseas.
