A new mainline Animal Crossing game is coming to Nintendo Switch in 2019

THIS IS NOT A DRILL! After years of anticipation, Nintendo has finally announced that a new Animal Crossing game is in development for Nintendo Switch.

Announced just earlier today in the latest Nintendo Direct presentation alongside Isabelle’s introduction to Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, Tom Nook introduced the game in a short video we’ve included below. Details are extremely light right now but we know two important things about this newly announced title.

First, the game is slated to release sometime next year in 2019. We don’t know if that’s later in the year or earlier, but late in the year is a safe bet given no preview of the actual game was shown today.

Secondly, the Nintendo of America Twitter account has confirmed that this is in fact a mainline game. So go ahead, remove your pitchforks from the air, this isn’t going to be a Happy Home Designer or Amiibo Festival situation, this is the real deal!

We’ll be keeping an eye out on all of Nintendo’s channels to see if any other small tidbits are dropped, but for now that’s everything we know. It’s great to finally have official confirmation that a new Animal Crossing game is deep in development and coming next year!

Animal Crossing for Nintendo Switch is now available for pre-order at Best Buy US here, and at GAME UK here.

Share your excitement in the comments below and let us know what you’re hoping to see in this new title at long last! And be sure to keep up on all of the Animal Crossing Switch information coming in the future by following us on Twitter and Facebook.

Haha, I love how you fans forgot that New Leaf was supposed to come out in 2011 (Japan) and 2012 for America, then got delayed to 2012 (Japan) and 2013 for America. This is NOT a guarantee that it comes out in 2019 given they’ve not only delayed New Leaf in the past, but remember when Pocket Camp launched in 2016 like it said it would- oh, wait, it launched in 2017! See my point? You can’t take these dates as set in stone, Nintendo’s got a habit of delaying games.

Finally, a reason to own a Switch, hopefully they’ll release AC exclusive design devices.
