A ‘leaked’ Animal Crossing Switch release of April 29th is spreading, here’s why that’s total nonsense
Every so often on the internet lately, a new piece of Animal Crossing for Switch information ‘leaks’ and spreads everywhere. The latest of these is a release date of April 29th from a retailer in the United Kingdom.
We’ve already had a few people send this release date over to us suggesting we share it, so here’s why we think it’s total nonsense and you shouldn’t believe it at all.
First of all, the suggested release date of April 29th is actually a Monday. Video game releases on Mondays are pretty rare to begin with, but they’re even more incredibly rare for Nintendo games. It’s extremely unlikely that we’ll see Animal Crossing for Switch released on a Monday.
To further my point, here’s a collection of recent big Nintendo game releases:
- New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe – January 11th, 2019 (Friday)
- Super Smash Bros. Ultimate – December 7th, 2018 (Friday)
- Pokémon: Let’s Go – November 16th, 2018 (Friday)
- Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker – July 13th, 2018 (Friday)
- Super Mario Odyssey – October 27th, 2017 (Friday)
- The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild – March 3rd, 2017 (Friday)
Besides the Monday factor, it’s unlikely for us to see an April release date at all at this point in time. While that may have seemed like a likely possibility back in September last year when the game was revealed, it doesn’t hold up much now.
April 29th is just under 90 days from today and we have not yet seen a single screenshot, trailer, feature, or even an official name for Animal Crossing on Nintendo Switch. While it might be fun and exciting to imagine a release this soon, it’s just not looking very likely at this point in time given the complete lack of information.
Finally, any release date backed up solely by a single retailer should always be treated with extreme caution. It’s extremely common for stores to set internal placeholder dates for games as their systems often require some date to be in place for pre-orders to be accepted. In this case, the information reportedly comes from GAME, which is actually accepting pre-orders already!
We’re just as excited for Animal Crossing on Nintendo Switch to release as you are, but let’s not get ahead of ourselves believing anything we see on the internet just because we’re excited! As always, you can trust that we’ll report on any news when it happens here at Animal Crossing World.
