Animal Crossing: Happy Home Designer launches this summer in Japan on July 30th, as just announced on the latest Japanese Nintendo Direct broadcast. Alongside the release date, we have some pricing information for the Japanese market, which should give us a hint as to the pricing overseas.

As many of you know, Nintendo’s latest big release Splatoon launched today on Wii U. Luckily for us, Engadget has published an interview with the producer of the game Hisashi Nogami alongside the release! But who is Hisashi Nogami?
Hisashi Nogami is a top developer at Nintendo, where he has directed Animal Crossing games from the original through to City Folk on the Wii. More recently, his attention has been focused on the Wii U OS software, and of course Splatoon. We can only assume he is working on the upcoming Animal Crossing: Happy Home Designer as well.
Thanks to the folks at Engadget, we got a little Animal Crossing question in at the end of the interview for us to twist and speculate on:
LEVEL-5 has been teasing the idea of a sequel to Fantasy Life on Nintendo 3DS off and on for quite a while now, and they’ve finally delivered on the announcement today. Except it’s probably not quite what you were expecting: Fantasy Life 2: Two Moons and the Village of God is releasing this summer in Japan for iOS and Android mobile devices.
As far as we can tell at this early stage, Fantasy Life 2 doesn’t seem to much of a sequel at all aside from a new Village feature to collect villagers and build up your town, certainly a feature that gives off a mobile game vibe but also more of an Animal Crossing vibe. The graphics seem extremely similar and the game takes place in the same maps as well as the same 12 lives as far as we know.
Fantasy Life is a mostly great game on the Nintendo 3DS (more on that soon, my long delayed review is scheduled to go up this month) and truly deserves a full true-to-life sequel at some point no matter the platform with brand new maps and lives. A new Animal Crossing game titled Animal Crossing: Happy Home Designer is coming to the Nintendo 3DS later this year as announced on the April Nintendo Direct broadcast today. This new spin off game also marks the introduction of amiibo cards, starting with a collection of Animal Crossing animals.
It’s happening at long last. Nintendo has just announced today a new agreement with Japanese mobile game company DeNA to bring Nintendo’s intellectual property, including characters, to mobile devices. This new deal includes the potential for any and all Nintendo IPs to be developed for mobile devices in collaboration with DeNA. There will be no exceptions to any individual IP: the deal covers them all, including Animal Crossing.
If you haven’t heard already, Nintendo’s loyalty program Club Nintendo is going the way of the dinosaur in just a few months. As part of their attempts to give everyone a chance to spend their remaining coins before the shut down, a massive collection of brand new both physical and digital download rewards have been posted on Club Nintendo in North America.
Amongst these fresh new rewards for North America is a very special treat for all of us Animal Crossing fans out there: A double set of Animal Crossing Mini Playing Cards for 600 coins! Each set contains 52 cards and feature various Animal Crossing characters on them alongside their Japanese names. These were previously available on Club Nintendo in Japan but now they’re available to the rest of us.
