Where Are Pumpkins & Halloween Items In Animal Crossing: New Horizons? You Need To Time Travel Or Wait

4 years ago 8 Comments

The exciting new Fall Halloween Update for Animal Crossing: New Horizons has finally released today for download, but players who play in real-time might find themselves a bit confused and disappointed when they login today.

Sure, you’ll find a letter from Nintendo in the mail containing a new Ring-Con furniture item gift to enjoy. Plus, a couple small new quality-of-life features have been introduced, like an ability to see past dream islands visited and a hide function for non-orderable items in the Nook Shopping catalog.

But what about the real meat of the Fall Halloween Update? If you’re logging onto Animal Crossing: New Horizons either this morning or last night after the update, you might be wondering where the heck all of the features you were promised went to!

Give the ol’ Nook’s Cranny a check — nope, no candy or pumpkin starts to be found. What about the costumes at Able Sisters? Nothing new to be seen there either. It’s almost as if there wasn’t even a new update today.

UPDATE: If you’re reading this article now on October 1st, most of the new features of the update should now be available! Check out our Pumpkin Farming, Spooky Set Items, Halloween Costumes & Clothing, Halloween Candy guides for more details on everything new.

Nintendo promised plenty of Pumpkins, Halloween costumes, and more to enjoy in the highly anticipated update trailer last week, so where are they? Well, the problem is that today is still September 30th for most of the world and these major new additions have been created specifically for October, as you might expect for Halloween.

There’s nothing really wrong with limiting these additions to the month of October, it makes plenty of sense. But the planned timing of the update does feel a bit misplaced. Naturally if an update is announced for a certain day, fans expect to play around with the new goodies on that day, like with past updates.

So if you’re playing Animal Crossing: New Horizons this morning and wondering where all the new fun additions are — there’s your answer. It’s up to you whether you might want to adjust the date and time on your system, or wait it out until the next day.

Where’s The New Fall Halloween Update Content?

Here’s a quick breakdown of the major new features in the Fall Halloween Update that mostly aren’t available yet in September. Note that it’s possible we’ve gotten some of these slightly off as the update is brand new, but it should give you a general idea of what to expect.

Pumpkin Seeds & Farming

To get started with growing and farming Pumpkins on your island, you’ll first need to buy Pumpkin Starts. The easiest way to get these right now near Halloween will be at Nook’s Cranny throughout October — but not in September.

There is a possible loophole though, since the traveling merchant sloth Leif can also sell Pumpkin Starts year-round regardless of the season. But as we all know, it’s no guarantee to find him outside Resident Services on a given day, so this won’t apply for most players.

UPDATE: It appears that Leif is not actually selling Pumpkin Starts outside of October, despite Nintendo’s official information indicating they would be sold. We’re not sure yet whether this is a bug or miscommunication.

Spooky Set Pumpkin Items

There’s a couple different ways to pick up the new Spooky Set furniture and items for Halloween, but the easiest way won’t be available until October when the upgraded Nook’s Cranny begins selling these items in the seasonal corner on a daily basis.

We think it’s possible to find villagers crafting Spooky Set items for you to learn outside of October though. And additionally, some of the Spooky Set items won’t be available until the actual October 31st event for Halloween with Jack.

Halloween Costumes, Body Paint, Eye Colors

Check the Able Sisters shop throughout October for brand new Halloween costume options! You can also find new Body Paint and Eye Color customization options for purchase during October at the Nook Stop Terminal using Nook Miles, they’re called Body-Paint Costume Tips and Exploring New Eye Colors.

Don’t worry though — the new body paint and eye color options are permanently unlocked after purchase, even when the Halloween season is long over!

Halloween Candy

Halloween Candy is sold inside the cabinet at Nook’s Cranny throughout the month of October! You can only purchase one piece of Candy from your shop per day though, so keep at it once October begins.

Halloween Reactions

As far as we know so far, the two new Halloween themed Reactions shown off in the official update trailer are only available from the Halloween Event on October 31st with Jack.
