Animal Crossing: New Horizons Server Maintenance Tonight (August 5th, 2020)

Nintendo has announced a period of server maintenance for Animal Crossing: New Horizons happening tonight, which is often in preparation for a new minor update release.

We received an in-game notification on our Nintendo Switch while playing Animal Crossing: New Horizons alerting us of the incoming maintenance set to begin shortly at 5:50PM Pacific Time / 8:50PM Eastern Time.

More complete details of the maintenance can be found on the official Network Maintenance Information / Operational Status page on Nintendo’s official website, which we’ll cover below.

According to the official status page, both Animal Crossing: New Horizons network services and the NookLink service within the Nintendo Switch Online mobile application will be down for maintenance for about an hour and a half tonight on August 5th beginning at 5:50PM Pacific Time / 8:50PM Eastern Time and ending at 7:30PM Pacific Time / 10:30PM Eastern Time.

We can’t entirely say for sure what the server maintenance will be addressing or is intended for, however it’s a common pattern that Nintendo brings down the game servers around this time of night just prior to releasing a new game update.

If there is a new Animal Crossing: New Horizons game update alongside this server downtime though, we would expect it to be a fairly minor update fixing any bugs and glitches that have cropped up since the major Summer Update Wave Two launch last week.

In fact, we saw a similar pattern emerge last month with the minor Version 1.3.1 Update releasing alongside server maintenance soon after the first major Summer Update released.

So if we had to bet, there’s likely a minor bug fix update planned for release shortly tonight around when the servers go down for maintenance. We can’t absolutely guarantee it though and nothing has been officially announced on that front.
