Animal Crossing: New Horizons Server Maintenance Tonight (October 8th, 2020)

A brief round of new server maintenance for Animal Crossing: New Horizons (ACNH) has been announced by Nintendo for tonight, which will likely be followed by a new minor update release.

We received an in-game notification on our Nintendo Switch while playing Animal Crossing: New Horizons alerting us of the incoming maintenance set to begin shortly at 5:55PM Pacific Time / 8:55PM Eastern Time.

More complete details of the maintenance can be found on the official Network Maintenance Information / Operational Status page on Nintendo’s official website, which we’ll cover below.

According to the official status page, both Animal Crossing: New Horizons network services and the NookLink service within the Nintendo Switch Online mobile application will be down for maintenance for about an hour and a half tonight on October 8th beginning at 5:55PM Pacific Time / 8:55PM Eastern Time and ending at 7:30PM Pacific Time / 10:30PM Eastern Time.

It’s impossible for us to say for sure what the server maintenance will be addressing or is intended for, however we are expecting a minor update with bug fixes to arrive shortly after. That’s because almost every maintenance period for Animal Crossing: New Horizons is followed up by an update.

UPDATE RELEASED: 4 Fixes & Adjustments In Animal Crossing: New Horizons Version 1.5.1 Update (Patch Notes)

In particular, we expect that a bug affecting the change of your customizable title in the Passport NookPhone app will be resolved. Since the Version 1.5 update last week, some users have encountered specific unlocked titles to be inaccessible or simply have disappeared from the selectable list entirely.

That bug was specifically addressed by Nintendo in a statement on Twitter last week where the developers acknowledged the issue and promised a bug fix delivery as soon as possible, translated roughly into English from Japanese:

As a bug that occurs in update data Ver.1.5.0, the phenomenon that “some titles acquired in” Tanuki Mileage “are not displayed in the passport” has been confirmed.
We are currently fixing bugs and will deliver them as soon as the fix data is available. We apologize for the inconvenience, and thank you for your cooperation.

The developers also addressed the issue of a controversial bug fix regarding catalogued Amiibo Posters in Nook Shopping last week — check out our article here for details if you missed it.

So it does seem highly likely there will be a minor bug fix update released shortly tonight around when the servers go down for maintenance. We can’t absolutely guarantee that though as nothing has been officially announced yet beyond the server downtime.
