The Turkey Day event for Thanksgiving in Animal Crossing: New Horizons is almost here! You’ll need to gather various ingredients to cook dishes, and we’ve got the early scoop on exactly what items are required if you want to get a head start in preparing.

As you may already know, it’s not currently possible to experience the Turkey Day event with regular play, but it’ll become available to everyone this Thursday, November 26th. Through the magic of datamining and hacked systems though, we’ve been able to gather up handy information from sources on the event to help you prepare.

11/26 UPDATE: Turkey Day is now available everywhere to enjoy! Follow our complete guide to the event here.

Note that the rest of this article should be considered significant spoilers for the Turkey Day event, so proceed at your own risk. We recognize there is an interest from some readers to be as prepared as possible without surprises, which is why we’re publishing this.

How To Prepare For Turkey Day Thanksgiving Event

During the Turkey Day event, the world-class chef Franklin will ask you for help with cooking up four different dishes for him and your villagers. A list of required ingredients will be provided to you by him for each recipe.

If you want to be as prepared as possible for the event, you can start by gathering up and obtaining all of the ingredients beforehand that you might need on Thanksgiving. We’ll tell you every recipe in this article.

However, it’s worth noting that gathering ingredients beforehand is not actually necessary to do, because you can get everything required by trading fish to villagers in their homes. Preparation is simply to help you complete the event in an easier or faster manner.

Keep in mind that for some recipes, there is a random element involved where you will only require one ingredient of a few different possibilities. We’ll tell you about all the possibilities, but know that this means you’ll have to gather some ingredients that will ultimately be left unused.

Finally, each recipe has a special final Secret ingredient used to enhance the dish. Franklin won’t tell you about this ingredient or even allow you to cook with it initially, but you can add it later after creating a dish to get a bonus reward. Villagers will give hints about the secret ingredients, but we’ll tell you them as well.

Clam Chowder Recipe

The Clam Chowder recipe can be cooked on Turkey Day using the following ingredients:

  • 3 Manila Clams
  • Secret: Scallop

You can get Manila Clams by digging up squirting spots on your island’s beaches. The Scallop can be found by diving for sea creatures in the ocean and is used as the secret ingredient to enhance the Clam Chowder afterwards.

Pumpkin Pie Recipe

The Pumpkin Pie recipe can be cooked on Turkey Day using the following ingredients:

  • 1 Orange Pumpkin
  • 1 Random:
    • Green Pumpkin
    • White Pumpkin
    • Yellow Pumpkin
  • Secret: Two Pumpkins not originally requested.

You can grow Pumpkins by purchasing Pumpkin Starts from Leif year-round, or at Nook’s Cranny during October. Franklin will ask you for an Orange Pumpkin and one other random color initially, with the other two remaining colors used as secret ingredients to enhance the Pumpkin Pie afterwards.

The Gratin recipe can be cooked on Turkey Day using the following ingredients, depending on the island hemisphere setting:

Northern Hemisphere

You can find Mushrooms growing around trees during November. Mussels, Oysters, and Sea Urchins can be found by diving for sea creatures in the ocean. Squids can be fished from the ocean.

The Dungeness Crab can be found by diving as well and is used as the secret ingredient to enhance the Gratin afterwards.

Fish Meunière Recipe

The Fish Meunière recipe can be cooked on Turkey Day using the following ingredients, depending on the island hemisphere setting:

Northern Hemisphere

  • 1 Sea Bass
  • 1 Random:
    • Dab
    • Olive Flounder
    • Red Snapper
  • Secret: Barred Knifejaw

Southern Hemisphere

All of the ingredients above can be easily found by fishing in the ocean around your island, including the Barred Knifejaw used as the secret ingredient to enhance the Fish Meunière afterwards.

That covers all of the possible ingredients you’ll need during the Turkey Day event in Animal Crossing: New Horizons happening on Thursday, November 26th. If you gather up everything above, you should be ready to go and complete the event in record time.

To be quite honest, we don’t really recommend doing this as it could suck a lot of the fun out of the event, but we do realize some fans would prefer to prepare and we’re happy to assist how we can with this article. One scenario that would make sense if you have limited time to play on Thanksgiving, but don’t like to time travel.
