New Bugs, Fish, Sea Creatures In August For Animal Crossing: New Horizons (Northern & Southern Hemisphere)

The finale of Summer is sadly here with August bringing new bugs, fish, and sea creatures in Animal Crossing: New Horizons (ACNH)! In this guide, we’ll cover every new critter joining your island during August in both the Northern & Southern Hemisphere.
Each and every month in Animal Crossing: New Horizons brings a different set of fish or bug creatures that can appear on your Animal Crossing island depending on the current month from the real-time clock.
That means you can potentially discover a fresh new batch of fish, bugs, and sea creatures on your island to catch when August begins that weren’t previously available to catch in July! This guide is applicable for all years, including 2023.
So if you want to catch every single creature to complete your NookPhone’s Critterpedia for getting golden tool items and donate every critter to the Museum, it’s important to know which critters have arrived this month and make sure you catch them as soon as you can to get an early start.
This guide covers both the Northern Hemisphere and the Southern Hemisphere islands — you’ll find the Southern information below the Northern sections.
August is a particularly quiet time of year for both Hemispheres with the Northern side receiving of sprinkling of just a few critters for each category. For those folks still in Summer, the Soft-Shelled Turtle found in the river and Moray Eel seen in the ocean represent the most notable highlights. Players in the Winter can unfortunately enjoy just two new critters — one sea creature and one bug.
Note that creatures are the same between 2020 – 2023, so you will see similar critters if you have played for a long time. This guide is written inclusive of no matter when someone may have started playing or taken a break, so repeats will show up sometimes!
