A super cute item has just been released for Animal Crossing: New Horizons today giving players a lovely new trinket to carry around with them!

Commonly celebrated by European countries, the real-world St. Martin’s Day holiday is commemorated by children carrying glowing candle-lit lanterns while singing joyful songs together. Sometimes sweets are given out too, similarly to Halloween.

To celebrate the St Martin’s Day holiday in Animal Crossing: New Horizons, a brand new seasonal item called the Handheld Lantern is now available to collect as part of the in-game Lantern Festival seasonal shopping event!

Players can pick up the Handheld Lantern item in Animal Crossing: New Horizons from the Special Goods section of Nook Shopping for 1,100 Bells each from November 1st to 11th, 2021.

There’s more than just one type of Handheld Lantern though — this special item comes in six different beautiful variations of Stars, Moons, Stained Glass, Suns, Geese, and Leaves that you’ll want to collect!

Check out all six Handheld Lantern variations below with photos, and let us know your favourite design in the comments:

Luckily, these variations can be easily obtained by simply customizing the Handheld Lantern at a DIY Workbench and don’t need to be specifically hunted down! Be sure to visit the Special Goods section regularly throughout the event period of November 1st to 11th though to purchase at least six copies of the item to customize.

Here’s the official description from Nintendo for the Lantern Festival shopping event:

Celebrated throughout Europe, this traditional event features a night of children carrying lanterns and singing songs to usher in the start of winter.

After the Lantern Festival, there’s only only one more seasonal holiday item currently scheduled to release. But don’t forget to grab the Marigold Decoration until November 3rd as well for Day of the Dead if you’ve missed it so far.

But of course, the much more important massive new Version 2.0 Update is launching on November 5th too!
