All 16 New Villagers In Animal Crossing: New Horizons Version 2.0 (Personalities + How To Get)
A wide selection of 16 exciting new villagers have joined Animal Crossing: New Horizons in the just-released massive Version 2.0 Update and could make their way to your island!
Despite receiving very little emphasis and airtime during the Animal Crossing Direct, these sixteen new villagers are easily one of Version 2.0’s biggest highlights for many Animal Crossing players given how popular ‘villager hunting’ became at the launch of Animal Crossing: New Horizons.
In this article, we’ll cover everything you need to know about these new villagers including, personality types and how you can invite them to your own island.
Eight of the villagers coming in Version 2.0 are completely new to the entire Animal Crossing series, including the blue squirrel Ione sporting a celestial tail and the robot octopus Cephalobot joining the game’s very limited roster of octopus villagers!
Another eight villagers are arriving with Version 2.0 as returning lost characters from past Animal Crossing games on the Nintendo GameCube, including the blue jock bird Ace and tropical orange koala Faith. Some of these returning villagers were never even seen in an English version of Animal Crossing!

How To Get New Version 2.0 Villagers
All 16 new villagers introduced in Version 2.0 have been added into the normal pool of Animal Crossing: New Horizons villagers you can find through regular methods like randomly moving onto your island, visiting at the campsite, or meeting on a Mystery Island using Nook Mile Tickets.
There are no Amiibo Card exclusivity restrictions that apply, like the card-exclusive Sanrio Villagers released earlier this year that did.
Use Series 5 Animal Crossing Amiibo Cards
All sixteen of these fresh new villagers coming in Version 2.0 have their own Animal Crossing Amiibo Cards that were released as part of Series 5 on November 5th, 2021.
If you can manage to pick up one of those lovely new Amiibo Cards for any of the new villagers, you’ll be able to easily invite them to your island’s campsite using the Nook Stop Terminal inside Resident Services. It’s the most painless method by far.
Note that Series 5 Amiibo Cards do come in randomly assorted packs of 6 or 3 cards, depending on the region, so obtaining the correct cards you want could be quite a hassle. The 16 new villagers also only represent about a quarter of the possible 48 cards you could draw.
Visit Mystery Islands With Nook Miles Tickets
If you don’t own an appropriate Animal Crossing Amiibo Card for a villager, the best way to find them is through repeated attempts visiting mystery islands using Nook Miles Tickets. As a refresher, random villagers can be found on these islands and there is no limit to how many islands you can visit per day, besides your Nook Miles funds.
Given the random nature involved, you may have to visit hundreds of islands before the villager you desire shows up. If you happen to be lucky enough to find them though, just chat them up and ask the villager to move to your island. You will need to have at least one free villager slot available on your island out of the 10 villager maximum.
Find Villagers In Campsites
The new Version 2.0 villagers can also appear in your island’s campsite as a random visitor every once in a while, but once again, this is a random process with no way for you to influence the results.
Trade Online With Friends & Strangers
Finally, it’s also possible to invite of the new Version 2.0 villagers to your island by finding them ‘in boxes’ ready to move from another player’s island online. Ideally, this happens from a generous friend, but there’s plenty of strangers online willing to extort you for materials and bells too!
