Fishing Tourney #4 Complete Event Guide

The fourth Fishing Tourney event has begun in Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp for iOS and Android! It runs from July 25th, 2018 to July 29th, 2018. Learn how to catch tournament fish, win underwater furniture, and claim free Leaf Tickets in our complete guide!

How to Catch Fishing Tourney Fish

During the tournament, head to the Saltwater Shores ocean on your map and meet the friendly NPC Chip when he welcomes you on your first arrival to the beach. (you can find him standing north of the dock later) After you’ve started the event by speaking with him, just start fishing on the beach’s ocean shore by tossing your fishing rod towards sparkling shadows in the water. Those sparkles indicate a tourney fish ready to catch!

For Fishing Tourney #4, there are three special tournament fish to catch during the event: Achilles Surgeonfish, Spotted Knifejaw, and Black Clown Fish. These fish will always be caught when you go after a sparkling shadow.

Unfortunately, those special sparkling tourney fish are only available in limited quantities before they disappear until the respawn time. After catching around seven or so of these fish, a notice will pop-up indicating there are none left to catch for now. Thankfully, the respawn is directly tied to the 3-hour villager cycle meaning that every time villagers cycle around your map, there will be new tourney fish to catch!

Be sure to take the time to speak to your villagers at the campsite often as they can offer you tourney fish as gifts when speaking to them as an extra way to progress. This happens during interactions where they share materials or bells with you.

Win Underwater World 4 Furniture

Once you’ve caught all of the special tourney fish available in the ocean for a cycle, head over to Chip and speak with him to collect your rewards. He’ll assess your inventory of tourney fish and added up the measurements to add to your total-size goal. Then you’ll receive prizes according to your total-size goal milestones reached so far!

	Fishing Tourney Banner	Reach total-size goal of at least 7200cm. There is a random chance of receiving this item at 7200cm and every 400cm after. It could take up to 10,000cm if you are very unlucky.

Chip Challenges: Free Leaf Tickets, Treats, and Throw Nets!

You don’t want to miss out on Chip Challenges during this event — they’re the Timed Goals for Fishing Tourney #4 and are a great way to fetch extra rewards! Most importantly, a total of 40 free Leaf Tickets are available if you complete all the relevant challenges. Other rewards include free tourney throw nets to help you complete the event, treats to level up your villagers, extra duplicates of some event items, and a free sparkle stone.

Complete the Fishing Tourney Easier and Faster with the Golden Rod

Don’t have much time and want all of the items from this event? For 80 Leaf Tickets, you can purchase a Golden Rod from Chip to guarantee double catches for all of your tourney fishing for the duration of the event. With the regular fishing rod, there is a small chance of catching two fish at once but not often.

Generally, we don’t consider it to be necessary to purchase the Golden Rod to obtain the vast majority of rewards assuming you are an active player. We can consider being an active player to be someone participating in around four fishing cycles every single day during the event. If you don’t have as much time to play, you may find the Golden Rod to be worth purchasing!

Notice that we said the vast majority of rewards, not all of the items. In this fourth edition of the event, there is a new Fishing Banner item that is particularly difficult to obtain. It’s hard to say for sure until the event is over but we estimate it will be fairly unlikely to obtain this item without the golden rod unless you play in the vast majority of cycles every single day, which is impractical if you value sleep and productivity!

Is the Golden Rod worth it? Ultimately, we do recommend purchasing the Golden Rod if getting the Fishing Banner item is very important to you, otherwise skip it. You can get everything else with relative ease using the regular rod if you’re active.
