How to Catch Fishing Tourney Fish

In this tournament event, travel to the Saltwater Shores location in the bottom-right of your map and meet Chip the Beaver when he welcomes you on your first arrival to the ocean. After beginning the event by speaking with him, just start fishing in the nearby ocean by throwing your fishing rod towards sparkling shadows in the water. Those sparkles indicate a tourney fish ready to catch!

For Fishing Tourney Poolside, there are three different special tournament fish to catch during the event: Shark, Saw Shark, and the Hammerhead shark. You’ll always catch one of these fish when you go after a sparkling shadow in the water!

Unfortunately, the special sparkling tourney fish are only available in limited batches before they disappear until the next spawn time. After catching between six to nine of these fish, a notice will pop-up indicating there are no more left to catch right now.

Thankfully, the re-spawn of sparkling tourney fish are directly tied to the 3-hour villager cycle. This means that every time villagers cycle around the map to new locations, there will be new tourney fish to catch!

For an extra boost to your fishing prospects, don’t forget to take the time to speak to your villagers at the campsite fairly often as they can offer you bonus tourney fish as gifts when speaking to them. This is a great extra method to progress and happens during interactions where they share materials or bells with you!

Win Exclusive Summer Poolside-Themed Items

After catching all of the special tourney fish available in the ocean during a villager cycle, head over to Chip north of the dock and talk to him to collect your rewards. Chip will ‘assess’ your inventory of tournament fish and add up the measurements to your total-size goal. Then you’ll receive prizes according to your total-size goal milestones reached so far!

In addition to the prizes above, Chip will give you up to 30 Seashell Clusters by completing filler goals before the —-cm milestone. Collect Seashell Clusters for progress towards the Vacation Memory Melody Seasonal Event in July. You will also get a variety of essence material items.

Win Fishing Tourney Trophies

At the conclusion of the fishing tourney event, you will receive a trophy based on your total size of fish caught and turned into Chip! Here’s what you’ll want to aim for to get each type of trophy:

  • 100–4,999 cm: Wood Fish Trophy
  • 5,000–17,999 cm: Bronze Fish Trophy
  • 18,000–31,999 cm: Silver Fish Trophy
  • 32,000+ cm: Gold Fish Trophy

If you want a different one than you previously own, you might need to intentionally earn less points as weird as that is! Be sure to login to Pocket Camp as soon as possible after the event to ensure you can claim your trophy prize as there is a limited time period to do so.

Catch More Tourney Fish with the Golden Rod

If you don’t have much time to play and want to be sure to get all of the items from this event, there’s another option. For 80 Leaf Tickets, you can purchase the Golden Rod from Chip to guarantee double catches for all of your tourney fishing for the duration of the event.

With the regular silver fishing rod, there’s only a small chance of about 13% for catching two fish at once. This means you have the chance to make almost twice as much fishing progress with the Golden Rod in the same amount of time.

Is the Golden Rod Worth It?

Based on our rough calculations, we estimate this event will require completing between three to five fishing cycles every day of the event to obtain the final Golden Whale Pool Float item reward using the regular silver fishing rod.

Unfortunately that’s a very wide range of required cycles because luck is a substantial factor here due to both the massive spread of random milestones from 34,000cm to 51,500cm to unlock the final set of rewards, and the size of fish caught in every cycle.

If you don’t feel confident you can complete a full three to five fishing cycles consistently through the entire event, and the final item or two is important to you, it may be worth purchasing the Golden Rod to ensure victory. You’ll also get all of the Reissue Material at the end of the rewards that you may miss out on otherwise, plus plenty of duplicate furniture if you like the theme of this event!

Another option to help your event progress besides the Golden Rod is to purchase the Fishing Tourney Support Pack. The pack comes with one Large Tourney Throw Net, one regular Tourney Throw Net, and 100 Leaf Tickets. Individual Large Tourney Throw Nets can always be purchased for 20 Leaf Tickets.
