Upgraded Nintendo Switch ‘Pro’ Reportedly Releasing Early As September, Announcement Possibly Before E3

The long-awaited upgraded Nintendo Switch ‘Pro’ model could be releasing as soon as September or October this year, according to new credible reporting from Bloomberg.

Today’s news comes as a follow-up to Bloomberg’s previous report on the updated Nintendo Switch a few months ago back in March.

In that reporting, this upgraded version of the Nintendo Switch was said to feature a higher-quality OLED screen known for more vibrant colors and improved battery life.

That new screen would feature an increase in size too measuring at 7-inches, a notable improvement over the current Nintendo Switch’s 6.2 inch display size.

Most importantly, the updated Nintendo Switch would come with a more powerful processing chip inside allowing for improved 4K ultra-HD graphics to be outputted when in docked mode.

On the flip side, Bloomberg says that this new model is likely to come with a higher price tag over the current Nintendo Switch’s $299 price point due to the more advanced components and increased labor costs.

What’s particularly exciting from today’s report though is that an official announcement of the upgraded system is allegedly imminent, possibly coming prior to the start of E3 2021 on June 12th. This has been supported by other well-known Nintendo sleuths, like Emily Rogers.

An early announcement near E3 would allow third-party developers to reveal new Nintendo Switch games at the event that are designed and optimized for the updated model.

While Animal Crossing: New Horizons is already an immensely beautiful game that’s unlikely to benefit from any graphical updates, an upgraded Nintendo Switch could potentially help with the laggy performance seen on islands with hundreds of items placed outside on one screen.

Another benefit for Animal Crossing players picking up a newly updated Nintendo Switch would be an opportunity to create a second island, something that currently isn’t possible on a single system.

On the other hand, a new model releasing so soon would certainly be a bit of bummer for fans who purchased the Special Edition Animal Crossing Nintendo Switch just over a year ago, but that’s unfortunately just how technology rolls sometimes.

All in all, if this report pans out, we could officially see the long-awaited upgraded Nintendo Switch as early as this week with a release in the fall. After years of rumors, we’re looking forward to hopefully seeing an announcement finally!
