Animal Crossing: New Horizons April 2021 Update — Everything That’s New (Events & Features)

3 years ago 43 Comments

The next major Animal Crossing: New Horizons update has been released, so we’ll go over everything that’s new in the April Update and how you can experience this new content.

What’s New In Animal Crossing April Update

The April Update for Animal Crossing: New Horizons is focused on bringing back previous seasonal events seen in 2020 into 2021 with new twists for this year including May Day, International Museum Day, and Wedding Season. New seasonal Nook Shopping items for real-world holidays have been added as well.

A minor new feature allowing players to exit a Dream Island more quickly using the – Button has been implemented too, plus some bug fixes and adjustments. See the complete April Update patch notes here.

This new content update was officially released on April 28th, 2021 and is now available for download to enjoy! It’s marked as Version 1.10 — not the infamous Version 2.0 many had been hoping for, unfortunately.

The rest of this article serves as an in-depth summary of everything new you can experience in the April Update, but you may also want to check out our All New Items In April Update datamine article here.

May Day Returns With New Island To Explore

The May Day event returns in Animal Crossing: New Horizons from April 29th, 2021 to May 7th, 2021 as part of the April Update!

During the May Day event, you can visit a special May Day Tour island by using a May Day ticket at the Airport counter. On this island, you’ll find a puzzling maze to solve with twists and turns.

Good news though — the May Day Tour island will be different this year than previously if you participated in this event last year! Rover appears at the very end of the maze once again, but this time he’ll be offering a brand new prize called Rover’s Photo.

Check out our complete guide to the May Day Tour event here, newly updated for 2021 with complete walkthroughs. You can time travel to the event as it is not time-locked.

International Museum Day Returns With Art Exhibit Stamps

The International Museum Day event returns in Animal Crossing: New Horizons from May 18th to May 31st, 2021 as part of the April Update!

During the International Museum Day event, you can participate in a special Stamp Rally activity inside the Museum. By talking to Blathers each day, you can receive a Stamp Card for collecting Stamps around the Museum in each exhibit.

After visiting enough Stamp Stations, you can return your Stamp Card back to Blathers for a few prizes.

For the 2021 version of International Museum Day, the Art exhibit has been included this time with new Stamp Stations! That was a much mentioned shortcoming of last year’s event, so we’re glad to see it resolved.

As part of the newly added Stamp Stations inside the Art Exhibit, the April Update introduces a fourth Art Plaque reward to this event for 2021 that was previously unavailable last year.

Check out our complete guide to last year’s version of International Museum Day here. You can time travel to the event as it is not time-locked.

Wedding Season Returns With New Items

The Wedding Season event returns in Animal Crossing: New Horizons from June 1st to June 30th, 2021 as part of the April Update!

During the Wedding Season event, you can find local lovebirds Reese and Cyrus hanging out at Photopia on Harvey’s Island all month long.

Each day of the month, they’ll be happy to accept your help with decorating a room for them and taking their wedding photos! By doing so each day, you can earn Heart Crystals and exchange them for special wedding-themed items from Cyrus.

For the 2021 version of Wedding Season, a new set of wedding-themed furniture and clothing items will be introduced at both Nook Shopping and Able Sisters.

However, the actual Wedding Season event rewards found at Photopia appear to have been unchanged this year, with the new content focused around Nook Shopping and Able Sisters.

Check out our complete guide to last year’s version of Wedding Season here. You cannot time travel to the event as it is has been time-locked until the release of Version 10.0.a in June.

New Nook Shopping Seasonal Items: Children’s Day & Cheese Rolling

Almost every new update for Animal Crossing: New Horizons brings additional seasonal items to Nook Shopping’s Special Goods section, and the April Update is no exception!

In fact, 13 different new items are coming to Nook Shopping in this update by our count — though that includes 4 items that are really part of the Wedding Season event in our book.

Most notably, the Japanese Children’s Day holiday will be celebrated starting on April 28th with new Carp Banner and Newsprint Helmet items. After that, look forward to the Rolling Cheese holiday on May 22nd featuring… a ball of cheese item called Double Gloucester Cheese!

Other interesting new seasonal items include Carnations, Ship-Wheel Door Decoration, Flower-Petal Basket, Thank-You Dad Apron, and more.

Many past Nook Shopping items from last year throughout May, June, and July will be returning in the April Update too, so you can rest assured of grabbing them if you missed out in 2020.
