What’s New In June 2021 For Animal Crossing: New Horizons This Summer (New Items, Events, Creatures)
June has arrived in Animal Crossing: New Horizons with the beginning of Summer bringing refreshed seasonal events, new items to collect, and creatures to enjoy!
In this article, we’ll cover absolutely everything noteworthy to enjoy during June 2021 in Animal Crossing: New Horizons — including brand new items for veteran players, and returning events for newer players.
Wedding Season Event Returns
Last year’s adorable Wedding Season event featuring Reese and Cyrus has returned for 2021 during the month of June! From June 1st to 30th in 2021, you can find these two lovebirds celebrating their wedding anniversary at Harvey’s Photopia island.
To access the Wedding Season event, simply head to your island’s Airport and ask to visit Harv’s Island. When you arrive for the first time, you’ll meet Reese and Cyrus outside with an introduction.
Then you can head on inside the Photo Studio to help put together a beautiful arrangement of furniture for the two lovebirds to take their anniversary photos! Come back every day throughout the month of June to earn Heart Crystals and exchange them for exclusive Wedding Season items from Cyrus.

New Wedding Season Items
While the actual Wedding Season event itself is largely the same this year, a variety of brand new Wedding themed items have been added to Animal Crossing: New Horizons for 2021 through two different avenues!
During June 2021, you can find three new Wedding Season clothing items exclusively at the Able Sisters shop on your island including the Shiromuku, White Hakama With Crest, and Tsunokakushi.
In addition to the Able Sisters, another four new items can be ordered from the Special Goods section of Nook Shopping to celebrate Wedding Season.
Three of these items are a new Nuptial set of furniture including the Nuptial Bell, Nuptial Doorplate, and Nuptial Ring Pillow. They’re essentially an extension of the event items introduced last year.
The final Wedding Season themed item you can find in Nook Shopping is a very special Flower-Petal Basket. This lovely little basket can be held in your hand and is interactable with your character throwing beautiful petals into the air with a sound effect when used!
Father’s Day (New Item)
Wedding Season isn’t the only seasonal event being celebrated at Nook Shopping on June 1st as Father’s Day returns for 2021!
A brand new item for the 2021 version of Father’s Day called the Thank-You Dad Apron can be found all month long during June under the Special Goods section for 1,100 Bells.
Furthermore, the Thank-You Dad Apron comes in five different color variations for you to collect each day until you have them all!
Last year’s Thank-You Dad Mug item for 600 Bells has returned from 2020 as well if you missed it previously.
Dano Festival / Dragon Boat Festival (New)
A pair of new Asian holidays known as the Dano Festival and Dragon Boat Festival can be celebrated in Animal Crossing: New Horizons from June 5th to 14th!
To celebrate these seasonal events, two brand new food items can be purchased from Special Goods section of Nook Shopping called the Surichwi Tteok and Festival Zongzi.
Summer Shells Return With New Recipe
June brings the official start of summer season in Animal Crossing: New Horizons as a new type of seasonal crafting material called Summer Shells begin to appear on your island’s shores.
Found as a random spawn on the beach throughout June, July, and August in the Northern Hemisphere, these distinctly blue Summer Shells can be used to craft special shell, sand, and water themed items.
Nine different Summer Shell DIY Crafting recipes can be unlocked by shooting down balloon presents from the sky allowing you to craft these items using the Summer Shells collected throughout the season.
Although Summer Shells have been around since the launch of Animal Crossing: New Horizons, a new recipe was sneakily added in the Winter Update last year introducing the Summer-Shell Rug. Real-time players in the Northern Hemisphere will be able to unlock this recipe for the first time in June 2021.
For more details on these seasonal materials and recipes, check out our complete Summer Shells DIY Crafting Recipes, How To Find & Get Them guide here.
Southern Hemisphere players can look forward to the Snowflakes appearing with a winter wonderland on your islands starting June 11th!
Bug-Off Event Returns
The fantastic summer Bug-Off event returns for 2021 starting this month in June taking place four times throughout the season until September for Northern Hemisphere players.
During the Bug-Off event, special character Flick will visit your island hosting a competitive tournament where you can compete to catch the most bugs under a three minute timer!
Depending on how many bugs you can manage to catch during the timer, Flick will award you a number of event points. These points can be exchanged for a variety of bug-themed prizes like the Butterfly Backpack, Ladybug Umbrella, and Spider Web.
Sadly, there aren’t any new Bug-Off prizes to collect in 2021, so this event has little to offer for veteran players who already experienced everything last year. New players are in for a treat though!

Summer Sharks Arrive In The Northern Hemisphere
Every month in Animal Crossing: New Horizons brings some new fish, bugs, and sea creatures… but June is a particularly special month as gigantic sharks begin to appear in the ocean of Northern Hemisphere islands!
You’ll want to be on the look out for those sneaky shark fins in your island’s waters as these fish tend to be some of the most lucrative creatures to sell in Animal Crossing. Here’s some of the exciting new exotic fish you can expect to see in June:
- Giant Snakehead
- Ribbon Eel
- Saw Shark
- Hammerhead Shark
- Great White Shark
- Whale Shark

Summer Solstice (New Item) / Winter Solstice
Celebrating the beginning of Summer or Winter, this pair of seasonal events for the Summer Solstice and Winter Solstice take place between June 15th – 21st, depending on your island’s hemisphere.
Players in the Northern Hemisphere can purchase the Summer Solstice items this month, while players in the Southern Hemisphere can purchase the Winter Solstice items in June.
Each of the Solstice events features two items themed to season with the Sunflower Crown and Sunflower Rug for Summer, and the Midwinter Sweater and Aurora Wall for Winter. The latter item of each set are likely to be new for most players in June 2021 as they were only added in an update last November.
International Children’s Day (Returning)
Last year’s International Children’s Day seasonal event has returned to Animal Crossing: New Horizons for the first half of the month until June 15th.
During this time, both the Handmade Cape and Handmade Crown items will be available to grab from Nook Shopping once again. According to Nintendo, “This event is for celebrating children growing up in good health, while thanking those who raised them.”
These were among the very first Nook Shopping seasonal items released in the game, so many fans could have easily missed out on them originally. Be sure to place an order if you did!
Well, that pretty much covers everything worth mentioning that’s new to enjoy and experience during June 2021 in Animal Crossing: New Horizons! There’s quite a few new things sprinkled in for veteran players, while new players have endless new content.
