Polishing is a fantastic new feature in Animal Crossing: New Horizons added in the Version 2.0 Update, but you can take this new ability to even greater heights using Custom Designs!

What Are Polishing Custom Design Effects?

Introduced with the Happy Home Paradise DLC for Animal Crossing: New Horizons released in early November, the Polishing feature is a special tool that you can use to apply a variety of special effects to furniture and items in your house.

But the secret that takes this feature to the next level is a somewhat hidden option that wasn’t advertised prior to Happy Home Paradise’s release — you can use Custom Designs with Polishing Effects! This unlocks an unlimited range of possibilities, thanks to the impressive Animal Crossing design community.

Simply select the X Button, referenced in the bottom right of the screen, while selecting an effect using the Polishing feature. The custom design you pick will be used with the animation effect that you had selected when pressing X.

Note that you will need to have progressed far enough into the storyline of Happy Home Paradise to unlock all 14 Polishing effects to access Custom Designs for this feature.

There are plenty of possibilities for using the faces of your villagers with polishing effects, like the haunting example of Sherb seen above!

Many different options are out there for villager icons, but one option we recommend is the vast collections found at the codes MA-8501-1535-1176, MA-3130-4472-4937, and MA-2686-4807-6465 created by Taro_milktea.
