Cherry Blossom Petals DIY Crafting Recipes & How To Get Them

Cherry Blossom Petals are a special spring seasonal crafting material in Animal Crossing: New Horizons (ACNH)! Learn how to get Cherry Blossom Petals and all of the beautiful pink items you can craft with them in this guide.

How to Get Cherry Blossom Petals

To get Cherry Blossom Petals in Animal Crossing: New Horizons naturally, you’ll need to be playing during April 1st to April 10th in the Northern Hemisphere or October 1st to October 10th in the Southern Hemisphere when Cherry Blossoms are in bloom on your fruitless trees. Young Spring Bamboo can be found during the same time period as well.

If you are playing while Cherry Blossom trees are in bloom on your island, you can get Cherry Blossom Petals by searching for pink petals falling from the sky. It’s random when and where these petals will fall on your island, so be sure to always be on the look out for one!

When you do finally spot a Cherry Blossom Petal falling in the air, simply equip your Flimsy Net or Net tool and try catching the pink petal in the same way that you catch bugs in Animal Crossing: New Horizons! They can be a little trickier to catch than bugs though with how they fall in the air, so it could take some practice to master.

From our experience so far, finding Cherry Blossom Petals in the air appears to be neither super common or super rare. You’ll find them from time to time with no issues, but you also won’t be drowning in them everywhere either

Since the period of time that Cherry Blossom Petals can appear is very limited at only about a week and half out of the entire year, we highly recommend you catch them every time you spot one. We’ve also observed that they seem to be less common at night sometimes, so it might be worth focusing your hunting during the daytime.

How to Get Cherry Blossom Petals Outside Cherry Blossom Season

While Cherry Blossom Petals only appear naturally in the air during early April in Northern Hemisphere and early October in Southern Hemisphere while cherry blossom trees are in bloom, you can visit other players islands that have Cherry Blossoms if your own island is not in season.

For example, if you’re playing in the Southern Hemisphere when it is early fall, you may be able to catch Cherry Blossom Petals from a friend playing in the Northern Hemisphere. What’s most exciting is that the pink petals will actually appear and fall in the air even when playing online, so you can catch them yourself at another island!

The Cherry Blossom Petal crafting material can also be kept in your house storage or other places just like any other item, so you may be able to trade with players online outside of the season who have stockpiled the resource.

Finally, it’s always possible to time travel to a date where Cherry Blossoms are in bloom if you have explored all other options. You’ll want to change your Nintendo Switch’s clock to the following dates to find Cherry Blossom Petals on your island:

  • April 1st to 10th in the Northern Hemisphere
  • October 1st to 10th in the Southern Hemisphere

How to Get & Learn Cherry Blossom Petal DIY Recipes

There are a couple different ways you can find and get new Cherry Blossom Petal DIY Crafting Recipes in Animal Crossing: New Horizons.

Morning Isabelle Announcement

At some point during early April, you should hear from Isabelle in the morning announcements about the the ongoing Cherry Blossom season. If you haven’t already learned the Outdoor Picnic Set DIY Crafting recipe, she’ll send it to your NookPhone during the announcements.

There’s been a lot of confusion in the community about when or how this morning announcement from Isabelle occurs, but from our knowledge so far, it can only happen when you have no other notable announcements.

In other words, the game seems to use the Cherry Blossom recipe announcement as a filler item of sorts when there’s nothing else for Isabelle to talk about! So whenever you do have no villagers moving in, buildings opening, or other notable events, you should get the announcement.

Flying Balloon Presents

During the Cherry Blossom season, all Balloon Presents (excluding Egg Balloons during Bunny Day) flying in the sky over your island have a chance of dropping a Cherry Blossom Petal DIY Crafting recipe! Unfortunately, there’s no concrete way to control exactly what you’ll get, so just keep shooting them down until you get lucky.

Duplicate DIY Crafting Recipe items are easily possible too and should be expected, so we recommend trying to make trades with friends to complete the collection faster. You may be able to sell any duplicates for a hefty amount online too, especially to players in the opposite Hemisphere as you.

We do have some tips for how you can most effectively hunt and farm balloon presents though! First of all, watch for the balloon traveling direction — they will always fly across your island in a single direction during the morning and afternoon. Then later in the day around 6PM, the direction of wind will reverse!

Whichever end of your island the balloons are travelling from, we recommend hanging out on that beach side to regularly walk up and down the shore looking for them as they first reach the island. Pass the time by collecting some Manila Clams or trying your hand at fishing too!

Secondly, flying balloon presents always have a chance of spawning on an every 5 minute cycle beginning at 4 minutes past the hour. That means you can expect possible balloon spawns at 1:04, 1:09, 1:14, 1:19, and so on. Keep in mind these are possible appearances though — they won’t always show up every time and a spawn time could pass by multiple times before actually happening.

What About Bottles & Villagers Crafting?

Contrary to popular belief, these special seasonal crafting recipes are exclusive to dropping from flying balloon presents in the sky. Your villagers crafting in their homes and message in a bottles appearing on your beach draw from a separate pool of DIY recipes.
