Animal Crossing: New Horizons February Mario Update Download Release Time

For everyone living in other time zones, which almost certainly includes you, that release time converts to 5PM Pacific Time or 8PM Eastern Time on Wednesday, February 24th! That’s notable because it means the update will actually be arriving quite a bit earlier in some parts of the world than Nintendo advertised in the English trailer.
Here’s a comprehensive list of various Animal Crossing: New Horizons February Mario Update release times around the world, based on the Japanese release date:
- Wed, February 24th at 5PM Pacific Time (PST)
- Wed, February 24th at 6PM Mountain Time (MST)
- Wed, February 24th at 7PM Central Time (CST)
- Wed, February 24th at 8PM Eastern Time (EST)
- Thu, February 25th at 1AM GMT

Technically speaking, Nintendo hasn’t officially announced these release times for outside of Japan, but every single previous major update for Animal Crossing: New Horizons has followed the exact same pattern with the update delivered worldwide simultaneously.
Therefore based on both the Japanese tweet and past updates, we can say with certainty that you’ll be able to download the February Mario Update for Animal Crossing: New Horizons at 5PM Pacific Time or 8PM Eastern Time on Wednesday, February 24th!
So if you’re excited to get your hands on the February Update for Animal Crossing: New Horizons as soon as possible, be ready and waiting at your Nintendo Switch for a release at the times listed above. Keep in mind you will likely have to manually trigger the update, which we’ll detail in the section below.
How To Download February Mario Update For Animal Crossing: New Horizons
Your copy of the game should update automatically for you, but if for some reason it doesn’t, you’ll be able to manually trigger any available updates by pressing the + button on the Animal Crossing: New Horizons home screen icon, selecting Software Update, and hitting Via the Internet.
The Nintendo Switch will then check for all available Animal Crossing: New Horizons updates when you do so and download the February Mario Update (Version 1.8.o) if it’s been released.
Sometimes it can take an extra few minutes for Nintendo to get the update fully pushed out though, so don’t panic if it doesn’t work immediately on the hour!
When Can You Get Super Mario Items?
While the February Mario Update will be available to download for everyone on either February 24th or 25th, this doesn’t necessarily mean all of the expected features will be immediately available to experience and enjoy.
In fact, this might be the most lackluster Animal Crossing: New Horizons update so far at its immediate release for fans since the highlight new piece of content is Super Mario furniture and clothing, which will be time locked until March 1st.
In all of Nintendo’s information released so far about the update, the company has been careful to note that the brand new Super Mario Bros. themed items won’t be available to order until March 1st.
Just like how some recent events like Toy Day and Festivale were time locked to the real-world date by Nintendo, the Super Mario items will follow this trend requiring version 1.8.0a to be unlocked to enjoy them.
On the bright side though, we expect that you’ll receive the Mushroom Mural item from the Super Mario Set immediately after installing the February Update as a gift in the mail.
Plus, the February Mario Update also introduces a number of new seasonal holiday items like St. Patricks’ Day! One of those holidays, the Japanese Hinamatsuri Festival, will bring two new items called the Hinaningyo Doll and Blossom Lantern.
The in-game event period for Hinamatsuri Festival will begin on February 25th running until March 3rd, so you will be able to pick up these two new items prior to the Super Mario items released on March 1st.
What’s Next After The February Update?
So what’s coming next for Animal Crossing: New Horizons after the February Mario Update? At this time, there currently isn’t any remaining announced content or updates for the game that hasn’t already been released.
That’s different than in the past where Nintendo always teased the next piece of content — like when January’s update trailer previewed the Super Mario items releasing now.
You might have heard some rumblings about an upcoming Anniversary Update coming in March to celebrate the first year of Animal Crossing: New Horizons since release, but it’s important to know that this update has yet to be officially announced in any way.
The Anniversary Update is best described as a fan-created expectation and hope right now, rather than any sort of official update you should expect to release. Of course, we’re definitely hoping for a large update near the game’s first year anniversary, but we don’t know yet.
