You Might Find Something New On Your Animal Crossing Beach After Today’s Version 2.0.4 Update
Daily Animal Crossing: New Horizons players might notice something a bit unexpected on their island’s beach starting today in what appears to be a small stealth change made in the latest Version 2.0.4 Update!
After updating and playing today, we found a mysterious Gyroid Fragment appeared on our island’s shores in a similar manner to how Message Bottles containing DIY recipes often spawn on the beach. But unlike Message Bottles, Gyroid Fragments have never spawned in this way before!
A quick scan of social media indicates that many other Animal Crossing players are discovering the same after exploring their island this morning post-update, including a mention in our very own comments on the recent Patch Notes article for Version 2.0.4.

Previously, Gyroid Fragments could only be found in Animal Crossing: New Horizons by visiting a Mystery Island on a tour with Kapp’n and digging one up from the ground. But it appears with this latest update, Nintendo has introduced a new way to get Gyroid Fragments on the shores of your island’s beach!
Introduced in November’s Version 2.0 Update, Gyroid Fragments can be buried in the ground on your island and watered with a watering can to grow a random proper Gyroid furniture item to place either outdoors or in your home for decoration.

With 36 different types of Gyroids that can be collected in Animal Crossing: New Horizons, and many more color variations for each one, this new method of finding Gyroid Fragments should help speed up the process for dedicated collectors.
Of course, there’s always a small chance that this is some unintended bug created as a side effect of other changes made in the Version 2.0.4. It’s a fairly logical change to make though, not to mention quite noticeable and unlikely for Nintendo’s QA to somehow miss, so it’s probably intentional if we had to guess!
And in case you missed the news, today’s Version 2.0.4 Update fixed a few outstanding bugs in the game, including an infamous glitch that sometimes allowed villagers to be seen without clothes — learn more here!
