The Fishing Tourney Fireworks event has begun in Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp for iOS and Android, running from August 13th to 18th. Learn how to catch tourney fish and get all the summer festival fireworks prizes in our complete guide!
How to Catch Fishing Tourney Fireworks Fish
In this fishing tournament event, travel to the Lost Lure Creek location in the top-left of your map and meet Chip the Beaver when he welcomes you on your first arrival to the river. After beginning the event by speaking with him, just start fishing in the nearby river by throwing your fishing rod towards sparkling shadows in the water. Those sparkles indicate a tourney fish ready to catch!
For Fishing Tourney Fireworks, there are three different special tournament fish to catch during the event: Goldfish, Pop-Eyed Goldfish, and the Eel. You’ll always catch one of these fish when you go after a sparkling shadow in the water! If it’s not a sparkling shadow, you will only get a regular fish that doesn’t count towards this event’s goals.
Unfortunately, the special sparkling tourney fish are only available in limited batches before they disappear until the next spawn time. After catching between six to nine of these fish, a notice will pop-up indicating there are no more left to catch right now.
Thankfully, the re-spawn of sparkling tourney fish are directly tied to the 3-hour villager cycle. This means that every time villagers cycle around the map to new locations, there will be new tourney fish to catch! Check the ‘Moving in’ timer at the bottom left corner of the map to find out when new sparkling tourney fish will appear.
And for an extra boost to your fishing prospects, don’t forget to take the time to speak to your villagers at the campsite fairly often! They can offer you bonus tourney fish as gifts when speaking to them. This is a great extra method to progress and happens during interactions where they share materials or bells with you!
Win Exclusive Summer Festival Fireworks Items
After catching all of the special tourney fish available in the ocean during a villager cycle, head over to Chip north of the dock and talk to him to collect your rewards. Chip will ‘assess’ your inventory of tournament fish and add up the measurements to your total-size goal. Then you’ll receive prizes according to your total-size goal milestones reached so far!
Here’s the full list of the special event prizes you can win during Fishing Tourney Fireworks and how to unlock them:
In addition to the prizes above, Chip will give you up to 30 Morning-Glory Fans items by completing filler goals up until the 4,950cm milestone. You’ll want to collect these Morning-Glory Fans for progress towards the Fan Fair Festivities Seasonal Event in August, which gives another set of special prizes! You can also get a variety of essence material items from filler goals.
Win Fishing Tourney Trophies
At the conclusion of the fishing tourney event, you will receive a trophy based on your total size of fish caught and turned into Chip! Here’s what you’ll want to aim for to get each type of trophy:
- 12–1,299 cm: Wood Fish Trophy
- 1,300–1,999 cm: Bronze Fish Trophy
- 2,00–5,199 cm: Silver Fish Trophy
- 5,200+ cm: Gold Fish Trophy
These are the exact same trophy items as previous fishing tourney events in Pocket Camp, so if you want a different one than you previously own, you might need to intentionally earn less points as weird as that is!
Be sure to login to Pocket Camp as soon as possible after the event to ensure you can claim your trophy prize as there is a limited time period to do so.

Catch More Tourney Fish with the Golden Rod
If you don’t have much time to play and want to be sure to get all of the items from this event, there’s another option. For 80 Leaf Tickets, you can purchase the Golden Rod from Chip to guarantee double catches for all of your tourney fishing for the duration of the event.
With the regular silver fishing rod, there’s only a small chance of about 13% for catching two fish at once. This means you have the chance to make almost twice as much fishing progress with the Golden Rod in the same amount of time.
Is the Golden Rod Worth It?
Based on our rough calculations, we estimate this event will require completing between three to five fishing cycles every day of the event to obtain the final Piggy Citronella Burner and Blue Sparklers item rewards using the regular silver fishing rod. This calculation assumes that you make use of all seven free fishing tourney nets available to you from Login Bonuses and Chip Challenges.
To put this into perspective, there’s a total of eight fishing cycles every 3 hours in one day. Assuming you’re actually a human though and will sleep for at least six hours, there’s really only six fishing cycles available each day.
Unfortunately we can’t pin down the required cycles to be preciser, because luck is a very substantial factor here due to both the large spread of random milestones from 5,410cm to 7,710cm to unlock the final set of rewards, and the size of fish caught in every cycle.
If you don’t feel confident you can complete a full three to five fishing cycles consistently through the entire event, and the final item or two is important to you, it may be worth purchasing the Golden Rod to ensure victory. Plus, you’ll also get plenty of extra duplicate furniture given out after the goals since it’s highly likely to exceed the available goals with the Golden Rod.
Another option to help your event progress besides the Golden Rod is to purchase the Fishing Tourney Support Pack. The pack comes with one Large Tourney Throw Net, one regular Tourney Throw Net, and 100 Leaf Tickets. Individual Large Tourney Throw Nets can always be purchased for 20 Leaf Tickets.
